Al Colby is a transactional attorney whose practice is focused primarily on commercial real estate and business transactions. Al has broad legal experience in real estate and general business matters, including negotiation and drafting of purchase agreements and other agreements concerning real property, conducting due diligence and closings, issuing title insurance and opinion letters, entity selection and governance, corporate and general business contracting issues, representation of lenders and borrowers in loan transactions and the representation of creditors and potential purchasers of assets in business bankruptcy cases.
In November 2002, he joined Mechanik Nuccio as a shareholder. He is a member of the Executive Council of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar, where he serves as the Chair of the Member Communication and Information Technology Committee and as a member of the Mortgage and Other Encumbrances Committee and the Third Party Legal Opinions Committee.
Al graduated from Duke University cum laude in 1981 and Stetson University College of Law summa cum laude in 1993. Prior to entering the legal profession, Al spent almost ten years as a software developer and consultant for companies in Boston and Tampa.
Al has resided in Tampa, Florida, since moving from Boston in 1988. He is active in community affairs, and currently serves as the Secretary of the Governance Board of the Tampa Metropolitan YMCA, where he also serves on the Oversight and Capital Development Committees. He also is an assistant coach for the H.B. Plant High School girls basketball team.
